Between my hardcovers released by Thomas Dunne, the continuing Antarktos Saga, the Jeremy Bishop books and the ever expanding Jack Sigler/Chess Team series, I have promised fans and readers a large number of books to be released on a yearly basis. 2012 is no exception as I prepare to release CALLSIGN: KING – BLACKOUT, SECONDWORLD, THE LAST HUNTER – LAMENT, THE RAVEN, RAGNAROK and THE LAST HUNTER – ONSLAUGHT, in that order.
It’s a crazy schedule, but I don’t like keeping my fans waiting, especially for series books like THE LAST HUNTER. When there isn’t a large publisher involved, laying out a book-a-year schedule, why wait? After all, it’s YOU who spends your hard-earned money on my books. It’s YOU who pays my bills. It’s YOU who spreads the word about my books. Without YOU, my reader, I would be unemployed.
Of course, maybe I’m just saying this to make readers like me more. Could be a subtle manipulation designed to have readers buy more books and introduce my novels to friends. After all, there’s no tangible proof that I am truly committed to my readers.
Well, that’s not entirely true. Granted, you’ll have to take my word on this, but if I were going to conjure up something for personal gain, this wouldn’t be it. Plus, I’m an honest guy. Ask anyone who knows me (except for my brothers—they have memories of Monopoly insider trading and real estate scams).
So, what is this proof of my commitment to you? Twice in the past two years I have been offered a large sum of money—double any advance I have ever received—to ghost write a book for someone far more famous than me. I can’t give details for confidentiality reasons, but the projects were cool and the money really good. My answer to both offers was easy to make: NO.
Err, what? No? Why would I turn down easy money?
Here’s the deal: both projects would have also required me to delay the release of my books. Most of my books are self-published. Rearranging the schedule is a simple thing. And money certainly wasn’t an issue. So what was the deciding factor? YOU. The reader. Accepting the latest offer would have pushed THE LAST HUNTER – LAMENT to the end of the year. THE RAVEN and THE LAST HUNTER – ONSLAUGHT would have been delayed until sometime in 2013! Had I also accepted the first ghost writing offer, these books wouldn’t be out until 2014! If you’re a fan, I think you’ll agree with me when I thrust an index finger skyward and declare, “Unacceptable!” My long term commitment is to YOU, and a quick payday isn’t enough to change that. We’re in this together, for the long haul, and I thought you might like to know that the new, attractive sugar-mama failed to woo me. Twice.
So here’s my belated Valentine’s Day message to my readers:

And this reader is very thrilled that you are looking out for your readers and fans!! I will continue to recommend your books (and as a matter of fact, just finished the latest Last Hunter and need to submit a review… as always, a great book!!
You are certainly raising the bar!!

Very good news. Love over money. In the end you’ll be the one laughing. #winning. Somehow your efforts remind me of the Louis C.K. experiment. Keep up the good work.
And now I am in stress. How do I keep up with all your writing?
Comment by Sander Duivestein — February 21, 2012 @ 2:30 pm
With all sincerity, I thank you. You have taken the time to connect with me, my students, and you fans on numerous occasions. You have placed us first, and I am certain it has not gone unnoticed by others. Keep the quality writing coming, and we will continue faithfully reading.
Comment by Dan Delgado — February 21, 2012 @ 2:45 pm
That’s cool, Jeremy. I just picked up Threshold in paperback. Also thanks for the info on book design you gave me a while back. I’m still learning. Cheers to a fellow writer.

Nothing suprises me from this GUY!! You will NOT find a more committed writer to his fans than Jeremy!! I can say this enough “You the Man”
Comment by Chuck Autrey — February 22, 2012 @ 1:12 pm
Love all your Chess Team books. Keep them comming. I wish they would make movies from your books.
Comment by Paul Scott — February 22, 2012 @ 5:55 pm
Thanks all! I appreciate the support! What’s great is that declining the ghost writing job left the door open for a very cool development that will expand the reach for one of my book series (announcement coming in the next few weeks).

Thanks you for your dedication to us. Love your books. I drive the local bookstore nuts when you have a new one out. I usually ask for them before they get them out on the shelves the morning of release. I have purchased all your books either in DT format or ebook. Thanks for listing what you read also. I have found some good books through you.
Comment by Melissa McIntosh — February 23, 2012 @ 10:03 pm
Thanks Melissa, bookstore nagging is greatly appreciated. Might help get more stores to stock the books! Thanks.

Your dedication and continuing hard work show in every page you publish. And the blog and ongoing interaction with your fans make your dedication to us and our dedication to you reciprocal. Please keep up the truly great work!

Sincere thanks. Your books are always on my Amazon wish list and they’re on my Kindle on release day. I’ve ready everything you’ve offered in an ebook format and I haven’t been even remotely disappointed yet. You’re an exciting talent and an even more rare person… passion and dedication over money, lessons for the rest of us.
Comment by Nova — March 7, 2012 @ 12:00 pm
You’re very welcome, Nova. And thanks for the kind words (not to mention buying the books) in return.

Jeremy, where where you hatched at? Not taking the money and looking out for your fans/customers. That is totally un-american TOTALLY unheard of these days!!!! If word of this gets out, it might spread. Other authors, corporeations and dare I say politicians and government officials will start looking out for their people. Next thing that will happen is that cat’s and dog’s will start sleeping together and then all hell will break loose. We cannot have that!!!
As an avid reader, I am quite happy that you didn’t take the money. I am looking forward to reading more about the Chess team and to see what happens to Ull!
Thanks!

Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling!
Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes…
The dead rising from the grave!
Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together… mass hysteria!
Thanks for the kind words. I’m thrilled you appreciate my effort. What’s great is that passing up this money has led to an opportunity that will really help my books reach more people and wouldn’t have been possible if I’d taken the job. More on that soon.

Eagerly awaiting the release of Lament
Have loved the series so far, and am sooooo glad not to have to wait a year or more for the next book! Kudos to you for not bowing to publisher pressure.
Comment by Tracey Meadows — March 30, 2012 @ 4:02 pm
I’m looking forward to it, too! It’s my favorite series to write. Glad you’re enjoying it!
Comment by Jeremy Robinson — March 31, 2012 @ 9:11 pm
The hunter ascent along with the Antarktos Rising book was an inventive way of describing a plot from two different angles yet tying everything together. Look forward to the next two books and appreciate your dedication to your work.
Comment by vesouvious — April 11, 2012 @ 11:08 pm
Thanks for turning down Clive. Another author named Jack DuBrul took a similar offer, and hasn’t produced one of his own novels in 6 years, now, with no hope on the horizon. Not that his “clive” books aren’t good, just few and far between. Love all the Chess Team/Sigler novels, and the standalones. working on the Chess Team Novellas while I wait for Ragnarok to come out on PB (gotta buy on the cheap when you buy alot!). Just found out about your alter ego, that’s next on my agenda. Keep on keeping my busy, Mr. Robinson, you are tops on my list of favorite authors these days!!!!
Comment by Ray — April 16, 2012 @ 7:49 pm
It was a fun challenge, mostly because when I wrote Antarktos Rising, I hadn’t even though of The Last Hunter yet. But they meshed nicely.
Comment by Jeremy Robinson — April 16, 2012 @ 9:22 pm
Ha! Clive would have been hard to turn down. I know how much those guys get paid. It’s about twelve times the amount I was offered. BUT, if it had been Clive, I’d still be able to get my stuff done. At my current 5 – 6 book a year rate, I’d still be pumping out titles. So, I can be bought, but I’d never stop my own projects.
Hope you enjoy the Bishop books and thanks for the kind words!

How do you manage to get so many of your details correct, and then make a mistake? Is it deliberate? I just finished Instinct, and loved it, but then at the end you mentioned the 20th SUPCOM (CBRNE) out of FT. MEADE. It’s not at Ft. Meade, it’s at Aberdeen Proving Ground. My husband was Chief of Staff there for three years just after it was activated. I’m impressed that you know the difference between Delta and the Rangers, where James Rollins doesn’t, but then a detail that should be very obvious to anybody, something totally unclassified, is mistaken. Why?
Comment by Elizabeth A. Lowe — May 8, 2012 @ 10:08 pm
Hi Elizabeth, the best answer is that mistakes sometimes happen. Can’t get everything right all the time. As for this particular error, I can’t say what the specific cause was. It was written years ago. But it’s possible that I found a source that was also incorrect. I just did a quick search and discovered several online sources that incorrectly place the 20th at Ft. Meade. So that’s a strong possibility. But it’s not just something I made up. I don’t randomly pick military elements and station them at random forts. As for the detail being obvious to anybody, I’d have to disagree. Only someone with intimate knowledge of the 20th, or those bases, would know better. That someone just happens to be you!
Thanks for pointing it out. I’ll be sure to check my military sources a little more closely.

Jeremy, just read the Last Hunter books straight thru and plan to re-read Antarktos Rising soon! Great stuff! Can’t wait for Lament! I see SecondWorld just came out. Don’t mean to pry, but any idea on when we can expect to see Lament hit the eShelves? Keep up the great work!
Comment by Steve — May 11, 2012 @ 12:36 am
Thanks, Steve! SecondWorld will actually be out on May 22, unless your bookstore released it early, which does happen. Lament should be out at the end of June. If not, it will be out in early July.
Comment by Jeremy Robinson — May 11, 2012 @ 9:10 am
You are da man! I’ve been a avid reader of this genre for decades but I never would have found you if it hadn’t been for my Kindle and Amazon. I couldn’t believe the affordability of such fine writing products. You are the shining example for the possibilities of self-publishing and I wish you every success in the world. I just hope (selfishly) that you don’t run out of ideas for more stories in the future. Can’t wait for more on Last Hunter series!
Comment by Dennis — May 16, 2012 @ 9:05 am
Thanks Dennis. Glad you’re enjoying the stories and the self-publishing efforts. As for running out of ideas, no worries, I pretty much know what I’ll be writing for the next few years and am still coming up with new ideas. Helps to be writing for a wide variety of genres. Thanks again!
Comment by Jeremy Robinson — May 16, 2012 @ 9:25 am
Please, I’m dying here, need the need Lament book. Best book I’ve ever read and can’t wait for Lament and Onslaught. Promised myself that I would wait for both books to start reading but I know I won’t be able to, as soon as Lament is out I’m on it. Do you know when in June?
Comment by Anne — May 31, 2012 @ 10:29 am
God I’m so anxious I can’t even type properly. Meant to say that the Last Hunter are the best books I ever read.
Comment by Anne — May 31, 2012 @ 10:32 am
Heh. Anxiously awaiting my books is a good thing!
It will probably be toward the end of June. No exact date, yet. That’s how it goes with these straight to e-book titles. I write them, get them edited and put them up ASAP. Editing involves more than just my schedule, though, so I can’t make promises. But it will be soon. And Onslaught will hopefully be out in November. Thanks! — Jeremy

Just read the Hunter series for the second time! Awesome job…Desperate for Lament! Was hoping I might have gotten it on Father’s Day, no such luck. Today? First day of summer, maybe a chance?
The Raven? I Can’t find anything on that…can you shed some light on that for us?
Thanks!!
Comment by Craig — June 20, 2012 @ 11:27 am
I have to say that i have never been this impatient while waiting for a book release. I love the Hunter series and started reading Didymus and Raising the past. I haven’t been able to put any of them down once i started reading them. Thank you so much for your work and i can’t stress enough how much i’m looking forward to the last two books in the last hunter series.
Comment by Nicholas — June 22, 2012 @ 2:06 am
Hunter 4 should be out right around the end of the month. So not too much longer. Raven is coming out from Amazon’s 47 North and I’m still waiting for a release date. Should be this fall, though.
