It’s with great pleasure and relief that I can announce that Kane Gilmour, co-author of CALLSIGN: DEEP BLUE (which many Chess Team readers have raved about) will also be co-authoring the next full length Chess Team novel, RAGNAROK (click here for higher res cover image). We’re already hard at work banging out the plot, which is one of my most ambitious yet and will feature a nemesis far beyond anything King and crew have faced before. We’ll also learn the answers to many of the questions left open at the end of THRESHOLD.
What this means is: 1) RAGNAROK will be as good as the first three novels, with the same mixture of relentless action, science, mythology, creatures and humor. 2) The book will be delivered in late summer 2012 as promised. 3) I’ll have time to write the four other novels I need to write in 2012, including the last two books in THE LAST HUNTER series. AND 4) I might have time to try something new (like a screenplay, short film or an experimental novella), which will help me maintain a high level of creativity.
I’m very excited to have Kane on board for the book. Not only is he a great writer, but he also knows the series better than anyone. He’s a diehard fan of the first three novels, but he also edited all of the CALLSIGN novellas and co-authored one of them. This combination of talent and series knowledge makes him the perfect person to co-author the next full length book. Because he lives just over the state line means we’ll actually get to work out the final details in person, which should result in a flawless plot (I usually bounce ideas off the wall in my office, which provides little in the way of feedback). To sum all that up: this is going to be fun!

If you have any doubts about this collaboration, check out CALLSIGN: DEEP BLUE. Then check out Kane’s solo book, RESURRECT. Both are awesome.

Awesome can’t wait…………….

I loved Deep Blue. The bar has now been set higher for the next Chess Team story. This is just another reason I can’t wait for summer!
Comment by Dan Delgado — December 29, 2011 @ 2:51 pm
Dan, I promise, Ragnarok will clear the bar with ease!

Thanks John. I have no doubt you’ll enjoy Resurrect. It’s a lot like Boyd Morrison, Chris Kuzneski and Clive Cussler. Good stuff.

Mr. Robinson I am a student of Mr. Delgado’s and I have enjoyed reading the Chess Team series, Antarktos Rising and The Last Hunter-Descent. I am currently trying to get the novellas and waiting to get The Last Hunter-Pursuit.

Thanks all for the kind words about Deep Blue and Resurrect! I’m really excited to be working with Jeremy on Ragnarok. I think you’ll all love what we have planned. (Jeff: less with the checking on how much time you have left and more with the writing!)

Looking forward to it.. but I guess I have to wait to 2013 to read it in german
Hopefully the Callsign books will be available in german earlier. Could read it in english, but its more fun and much faster to read in the mother language and the german version is pretty good
Comment by Julian — January 3, 2012 @ 7:44 am
Julian, the German publisher has decided to stop publishing the series. Double
Unless another publisher picks it up, or I can afford to translate it myself, you’ll have to make the switch to English. They also won’t be publishing my next novel, SecondWorld, which deals with World War Two themes they thought would be too controversial. Wish I had better news for you. I thought the books were doing fantastic in German.

Jeremy, I was just checking your website for any updates and I just saw the news for RAGNAROK. Exciting news! I am guessing that with Kane onboard for the next chess team novel we will be seeing people leaving the land of the living by all new and utterly sickening ways along with more NFW and WTF moments!!!!
I am looking forward to it!

You got it, Charlie. Kane, like me, excels at coming up with awful ways to send people to the afterlife. RAGNAROK is shaping up to be of the craziest Chess Team installments yet!

Hello Jeremy, really enjoy your Chess team books, almost finished with the series (3 main books and all the novellas, just starting the last one, Deep Blue, now). Very entertaining! I’ll probably pick up some of the others of yours and from your co-authors, glad I stumbled onto this little treasure trove. Keep up the great work! Kudos to you and your writing team.
Comment by Jerry — February 17, 2012 @ 10:04 pm
Thanks Jerry! Glad you’re enjoying the Chess books! FYI, the third King novella will be out in April (most likely) and will finish the Brainstorm story line. Thanks again!

Started to read the Chess Team novels in February (ordered Pulse and Instinct late in November, but alas, no time to read and now I kind of regret it not having started sooner). Really enjoyed them and the little banter, personality and quirks the characters have, and I was delighted to find the paperback version of Threshold in my mail on Thursday (I had dreaded the release date in sometime March as I started Instinct right after Pulse and didn’t want to wait in reading them…). Instinct remains my favorite as of yet, the whole parts with the old mothers and the maze like labyrinth still sends chills down my spine (and a group of monsters going after a man to mate? Man, haven’t read a lot of that and it was a nice change (I hope I don’t sound too creepy now)). But I’m really looking forward to Ragnarok now (I hope with a lot of Knight action, he’s my favorite.).
And that’s really a shame that the Novellas aren’t being translated to German (though I prefer reading in English, but still…). Why did they stop publishing it?
But I do wonder about one thing, or maybe I have completely misunderstood it while reading, so I just ask first before I make a complete idiot of myself. When King’s father “left”, King was sixteen(?)… and then it’s said that he was in prison for 10 years, which would make King 26? How old are the team members roughly?
Comment by Anja — February 18, 2012 @ 4:20 pm
Hi Anja,
Glad you’re enjoying the books! I think Germany passed on the books because they weren’t selling in the numbers they wanted, but I think it also has to do with a new editor coming on board. That often happens with publishers. Editors don’t like continuing series brought on by the previous editor. As for your questions, I honestly can’t remember their ages off the top of my head! I’ll have to look into it, because I picture them as older than 26! It’s not an impossible age. Special Ops guys are usually pretty young, but I still picture them a few years older.
So you may have found a slip-up on my part…or maybe I just pictured them differently a few years ago (when I wrote the books).
Again, thanks for reading, and for posting here on the blog. Appreciate it.

The chess team adventures and the individual novels have easily become my favorite series. The non stop action is like an adrenaline rush that I can’t get enough of! Really looking forward to the next myth stomping ass kicking adventure!

Glad to hear it, Andrew! CALLSIGN: KING – Blackout will be out in the next month or so.

Will Ragnarok be coming out in Hardcover? It appears as if it is only coming out in paperback based upon what I see on Amazon. I hope that is not the case as I would really prefer a Hardcover book to match the rest of the series.
Comment by Mike Kerastas — April 9, 2012 @ 4:18 pm
Hey Mike,
Alas, yes, the series is switching over to trade paperback. They’ll be the size and feel of the Jonathan Maberry trade papers. The original publisher, Thomas Dunne, didn’t continue the series (though they’re still publishing me). That’s the reason for the change. They’ll still kick-ass, though.

Hi Jeremy
Forgot to came back here…

thanks for the info.. still nothing to read here in Germany
Bad news, but thats life. Maybe I will switch to English or we got lucky and another pusblisher takes the lead.
I will also write to the pusblisher and ask whats going on.. maybe they rethink their decision
The best way to get the new books in German is when you just be more successful
Best regards
Julian

hey, when will Ragnarok comes in german?
Comment by Stefanie — March 11, 2013 @ 10:21 am
Julian and Stefanie, it seems unlikely that Ragnarok will be translated into German any time soon. I recently discovered that Threshold (Code Delta in Germany) didn’t do so well. I don’t think this is a reflection of the book but of the effort put in by the publisher. The cover is horrible. Anywho, the same publisher isn’t even looking at me new books so it seems I need to find a new German publisher. My agency is actively looking, so hopefully this will happen. I would have it translated myself if it didn’t cost so much. So, if you can read English, that’s probably going to be the only option for a while.
Thanks for checking, though!

That said, if you guys want to start a letter writing campaign to the German publisher, have at it!
