THE CHESSPOCALYPSE CONTINUES – CALLSIGN: QUEEN and CALLSIGN: ROOK

Filed under: Novels,Updates — Tags: Callsign, chess team, Chesspocalypse, David Wood, Edward G. Talbot, jack sigler, novella, queen, rook — Jeremy Robinson @ 10:56 am

The second and third books of the Chesspocalypse are available now! It’s somehow fitting that Queen and Rook come out together. Both characters have the other on the brain, but are separated by thousands of miles as Queen visits Pripyat, Russia, on the outskirts of Chernobyl, and Rook finds himself in a strange and dangerous town in northern Norway. Both books are currently available as e-books at B&N, Amazon and Smashwords, but will be in print in the next few weeks. Book covers, descriptions and buy links below!

Queen

Buy from BN.com Buy From Amazon Smashwords

At the beginning of her search for Rook, a missing Chess Team member, Zelda Baker, Callsign: Queen, is redirected to Pripyat, Ukraine, a ghost town on the radioactive outskirts of Chernobyl. Intel indicates that splinter cell of Manifold Genetics—a ruthless corporation dismantled by Chess Team—may be operating in the area. Tasked with confirming the existence of a Manifold facility, Queen begins a recon sweep of the abandoned town in search of clues, but soon finds herself fighting for her life. Something sinister lurks beneath the decaying, surreal remnants of Pripyat’s never-used amusement park, and it rises up to greet Queen. In Pripyat, the streets are empty, the derelict buildings crumble, but the bodies…are fresh.

Rook

Buy from BN.com Buy From Amazon Smashwords

After a failed mission claims the lives of his five man support team, Stan Tremblay, Callsign: Rook, flees Siberia and finds himself on the secluded coast of Norway, north of the Arctic Circle. Exhausted, cut off from the outside world, and emotionally beaten from his defeat in Russia, Rook just wants to find a place to rest. The small coastal town of Fenris Kystby seems like the perfect place.

Within hours of arriving, he discovers that the town is not as tranquil as it appears. The townspeople are mistrustful of outsiders, a pack of mysterious wolves stalk the local tundra, and two villagers have been killed by a creature that defies explanation. To make things worse, there are rumors of something sinister, something the townspeople refuse to discuss.

Despite the hostility of the locals, Rook commits to stopping the creature murdering townspeople. As the body count rises, he quickly learns that the greatest threat might walk on two legs. And when he uncovers the town’s hidden past, Rook knows only one thing for certain: something is rotten in Norway.

  2. As everyone knows from the website I’m a huge fan. I read 2 books a week and Robinson is in my top 2 for Favorite authors. Read Queen yesterday and it was a great read LOVED the twist at the end, the idea of the novellas I think was the best thing for the chess team series. You get a small peice about all the different players and it follows the story from where we left it at in threshold. Jeremy you do it again as I say everytime thanks for another great read!
    Starting Rook in 5 mins…..

  4. Glad you approve of the novellas. It was a risk, but I think it’s working out for the best, especially with the fourth novel coming out a bit later than usual. And thank YOU for reading! — Jeremy

  5. When are the other books coming out!!! Read them all, need more!!!!

  6. The next two CALLSIGN books (Bishop and Knight) will be out in October. In November, THE LAST HUNTER – ASCENT will be out. And then in December we’ll have CALLSIGN: DEEP BLUE and CALLSIGN: KING (Book 2) – UNDERWORLD. So, five more books in three months are coming your way. Thanks for reading!

  7. And thats the reason Why everyone needs to spread the word about Robinson! BTW I read Rook and I cannot wait to see how this rolls into the 4 chess team book(I think I remember reading the 4th is going to center around him). Anyway I’m going to go write reviews this week about Queen & Rook, I think a ton of poeple use Amazon as a standard and followers should do the same!…

    Thanks again Jeremy

  8. Thanks for the reviews, and the enthusiasm. The more you guys spread the word, the more books I get to put out! Yes, book for, titled RAGNAROK, will have the major action focused on Rook’s location and the things hinted at towards the end of CALLSIGN: ROOK. But he won’t be alone. And King, Bishop, Knight and Deep Blue will have their hands full, too.

  9. I bought the first two recently from Smashwords, and Rook is in the shopping cart for when I have a threshold of books to buy (hopefully lower than the $100 I spent the last time around).

I’m especially looking forward to Deep Blue and finding out more about how he ended up in his, well, dual role.

    Comment by Lianne — September 29, 2011 @ 11:38 am

  10. Nice. Glad you’re enjoying the books, Lianne. Hopefully we can get Knight and Bishop out in time to help reach the threshold. :) I hear you on Deep Blue. He’s got a pretty cool story and I’m looking forward to sharing it.

  11. “So, five more books in three months are coming your way”… WOW, and thank you! I’ve loved every single book I’ve read of yours and I recommend you every chance I get. Keep them coming! :)

  13. Will the next callsign: King be written by Sean Ellis as well ?

    Comment by Dan Barbier — October 16, 2011 @ 5:58 pm

  14. Hi Dan,

Yes, Sean is on board for the second KING book. In fact, it’s near completion and with the editor right now. Going to be out before some of the other book 1s! Will likely be out by the end of the month.

  15. For what it’s worth, you are my new favorite author. I love the collaborations with other authors on the Chess team Novellas and the way you have kept the story going. I’m very much looking forward to reading Bishop’s story and to finally see Rook and Queen reunited.

    Comment by Beverly Smith — October 19, 2011 @ 8:10 pm

  16. It’s worth A LOT, Beverly. Thanks for the kind words and I’m thrilled you’re enjoying the novellas. Right now, it looks like King’s second book will come next, then Bishop, then Knight, and finally Deep Blue! You’ll have to wait for the fourth full length novel, RAGNAROK, to see Rook and Queen together again, though. Aiming for next summer. Glad you enjoyed SENTINEL, too. Thinking the next Bishop book might continue the story. We’ll see how the next few months of sales go. — Jeremy

  17. I started reading your books when I saw your name linked with James Rollins and Matthew Reilly. I am a huge fan, looking forward to the additional books in the Chesspocalypse series, I have to force myself to read slowly, so that as the next book is released I move right along. I even managed to hook my 15 year old son to your books.

    Comment by Ruth Cheers — October 28, 2011 @ 8:38 pm

  18. Hey Ruth,

Thrilled to hear it. Rollins and Reilly are two of my favorite authors as well, and James is a super nice guy to boot. Callsign: King – Underworld will likely be out by the end of the week! Tell your son I said “Thanks for reading!” — Jeremy

    Comment by Jeremy Robinson — November 1, 2011 @ 9:22 am

  19. Callsign King- Underworld “Being out by the end of the week” That’s the news I have been waiting on! Hell ya Should work out perfect since I went old school and started “Raising the Past” Yesterday…..Somehow I missed reading this one in my list of books.

    Comment by Chuck Autrey — November 1, 2011 @ 11:34 am

  20. Jeremy, great news on King 2! What’s the latest with the other 3 pending novellas: Bishop, Knight & Deep Blue? Thanks!
P.S. Love how interactive you are with the fans!

    Comment by Shannon — November 1, 2011 @ 1:43 pm

  21. Callsign King out end of the week is great news, What about the other 3? Knight, Bishop and deep Blue?

    Comment by Brian — November 1, 2011 @ 5:23 pm

  22. Hey Brian and Shannon!

Bishop will likely be out next, and then Knight. Both in November, though I’m not sure about dates. But they’re both in the editorial process right now, along with THE LAST HUNTER – ASCENT (also coming out in November). Deep Blue is scheduled for an early December release. As for interacting with fans, I don’t understand authors who don’t interact. Without readers, we’re nothing. Collectively, the readers are my employers. Of course I’m going to interact! And, of course, it’s fun to hear from people who appreciate all the work that goes into pumping out these books. :)

  23. Thank you Jeremy
I am very pumped about all the books coming out this month and next month. Thank you for all your hard work.

    Comment by Brian — November 2, 2011 @ 10:20 pm

  24. Quick question.. On the novellas what would you say is the % of the book you write compared to the guest author? Another fan and I were talking about this last week.
    Thanks in advance,
    Chuck

    Comment by Chuck Autrey — November 3, 2011 @ 9:43 am

  25. It’s different in every book. Story development is done jointly, with the initial concept being mine (except in the case of Sean Ellis). The co-author takes the first whack and then I add to it, edit for style, Chess continuity, character voices and sometimes add some of the more over-the-top action scenes. So each one is totally different, but the co-author does do more work than me. I think my head would explode if I actually wrote eleven books this year!

    Comment by Jeremy Robinson — November 3, 2011 @ 9:55 am

  26. We were wondering that same thing, an author writing 4 books a year like you do is crazy enough!! As always thanks for the information.

    Comment by Chuck Autrey — November 3, 2011 @ 1:20 pm

  27. Any hints at to when Bishop and Knight will be available? I’m going to Chicago next week and would love to have them on my Kindle for the trip. Can’t wait to read them and to learn more about Deep Blue when it comes out.

    Comment by Beverly — November 16, 2011 @ 3:16 pm

  28. Bishop was uploaded today. It will likely be available tomorrow on Kindle, and Nook. A few more weeks for the print edition. Knight will probably be another week or two. The Last Hunter, book 3 should be out next week. Thanks for checking!

  35. You beat me to the punch, Chuck! Need to put up a blog post. Hope you enjoy Hunter!

    Comment by Jeremy Robinson — November 30, 2011 @ 3:09 pm

  36. Hi Jenny,

SecondWorld is being released by Thomas Dunne Books/St. Martin’s Press (one of the big publishers) so it will never be on Smashwords, but it will be available everywhere else (including bookstores!).

Deep Blue will be out, maybe in two weeks. That’s a guess. Could be sooner. Knight should be available tomorrow! Though, if you use Smashwords, it will probably be available in just a few hours. :)

The Antarktos Sage, in order is:

THE LAST HUNTER – DESCENT (available)
THE LAST HUNTER – PURSUIT (available)
THE LAST HUNTER – ASCENT (just came out yesterday)
THE LAST HUNTER – LAMENT (coming in Spring 2012)
THE LAST HUNTER – ONSLAUGHT (coming in Fall 2012–hopefully)

    Comment by Jeremy Robinson — November 30, 2011 @ 3:13 pm

  37. Thanks Jeremy!! But where does the original Antarktos fit in the Last Hunter??

    Comment by Jenny — November 30, 2011 @ 3:33 pm

  38. Antarktos parallels the story in Hunter 3. They happen at the same time and overlap right at the end. You could read either one first.

  41. Thanks for printing your novella books and not making them Kindle only other authors have made their novella books kindle only and I really enjoy reading an actual book!!! It is also awesome to be able to read about your characters more then just once a year. Hope you keep up the concept and Thanks for such great Characters and storylines!!!!!

    Comment by Suzanne — December 23, 2011 @ 6:42 pm

  42. You’re very welcome. As long as people are still buying print, I’ll keep releasing print books. Plus, I really enjoy making them. You don’t get all of the art in the e-book so I really appreciate the print package. Thanks for reading!

    Comment by Jeremy Robinson — December 26, 2011 @ 11:22 am

  43. Hi Jeremy!

Just want you to know how much I enjoy your writing…fantastic work. I read a lot of books, techno-thrillers and covert military stories in particular. What has set you apart for me is your characters, pacing and story structure. While I enjoy the characters in other stories I read, usually they are built around one dominant character…very interesting and a lot of depth. What blows me away with your Callsign series is you are exploring the depth of all your main characters. I haven’t seen this before and I am impressed…not just with the risk you took, but with the success you have had in doing it. This is going to make the next Chess Team group novel even more interesting to read!

In addition, I can count on amazing action balanced with an intelligent story that engrosses me with truly surprising twists. I find myself working to unravel the mystery alongside your characters.

I am on a business trip overseas right now and working through all my Callsign books…I am having a ball! Can’t wait to see what is next in the Chess Team saga! I didn’t really think I could pass this feedback to you directly, but seeing as you appear to read this blog, I am hopeful you get this.

All this is to say; thank you very much!

    Comment by Christopher — February 10, 2012 @ 7:33 pm

  44. Hi Christopher,

I am indeed reading and replying to blog messages, as well as interacting with folks on Twitter and Facebook, not to mention e-mail. :) I’m thrilled to hear you’re enjoying the callsign books and you understand exactly what I was going for. Other than characters getting their own spin off series, which rarely happens, readers rarely get a chance to know team characters better. The series makes that possible. And it’s great fun. Thanks again for all the kind words!
