WHAT I LIKE TO READ:
I'm often asked what books/authors I would recommend
from readers who have read all of my books and are looking for more good
reads. If you're one of those folks and are looking for a good read, I
have provided my top 40 picks for novels by some of my favorite
authors. Enjoy.
In Feb of 2010 I published my sci-fi thriller/horror novel, BENEATH as an e-book and audiobook. Since then, 5000 copies of the e-book have been sold and 10,000 listeners have downloaded the audiobook. It’s been an awesome success, but a growing number of people have asked for the book in print, specifically in hardcover. That demand has prompted a Kickstarter.com campaign, which allows you to pre-order the book and fund the initial print run. Kickstarter.com works by accepting pledges, with the amounts for BENEATH set between $1 and $1000 ($30 gets you the book, shipping included). You are not charged for the pledge until/if the fundraising goal is met. If the goal is not met, you won’t be charged a penny.
Check out the video below or visit BENEATH’s Kickstarter.com page to find out more, pre-order your copy, and make a pledge!
Is putting the word, “period” after an actual period redundant?
Anywho… As you’ve probably guessed from the title of this post, I have a new App available for the iPhone and iPad called AuthorWire. And you can get it by clicking here. It’s $.99 for a limited time and includes access to the audiobook editions of BENEATH and KRONOS, this blog, a video channel, my Twitter feed, a gallery of book covers (which will expand as new book covers arrive), a store (to buy the books) AND a unique feature I call NovelTracker, which allows you to view all the GPS locations visited in my books. Get directions to them, see where they are in the world and check out satellite images. Currently, all the locations in PULSE are up. INSTINCT will be going up soon.
Awwww yeah, the third book in the Jack Sigler (previously Chess Team) series is coming out very nice and I’m ready to give you a sneak peak! Below you will find the very first cover mock-up. While this is an unfinished cover image you can already see that it’s going to be the best cover of the series. The final cover will have more color, be brighter and have a different/cooler text treatment.
NPR is hosting a poll to select the Top 100 Thrillers of ALL TIME. Fans submitted more than 600 novels and an industry panel including several esteemed reviewers and bestselling authors, Steve Berry and David Morrell, whittled that list from 600 to 182. And right now, both PULSE and INSTINCT are in the running for the top 100 thrillers of all time. HOLY CRAP! And that top 100 will be selected by YOU. Fans can now vote for their favorite thriller. So please, please, please head on over to NPR and place your votes for PULSE and INSTINCT!
In the past few weeks I have developed a curious case of writer’s block. That’s not to say I’ve been unproductive. I’ve already finished two novels since December 2009, published an e-book and marketed the release of PULSE in mass market and INSTINCT in hard cover. Then there is all those other small projects in the works (BENEATH hard cover special release, comics, iPhone apps, etc). And from the 8th of July to the 11th I was in NYC at Thrillerfest. I came home eager to get back to work. But today, having just finished the last round of edits on THRESHOLD am itching to write something new. I haven’t written since finishing my YA novel a month ago.
I returned from Thrillerfest in New York City on Sunday feeling exhausted (three nights in a row with 4 – 5 hours of sleep can do that) but also charged up and full of ideas. I served on a panel about audiobooks, e-books and vooks along with two other authors (one being the first Vook author) the head of Audible, a senior marketing gal for the Nook/bn.com, the owner of scribd.com and a senior editor for a big publisher (sorry for the lack of names, I’m feeling lazy…and tired) and I think I learned the most from my own panel than any other. So much so that I have a new project brewing. Top secret stuff.
Seriously? You expect me to do more than sell 14 novels this year? I do this on my own, you know. Fine, if you want to be like that, here’s what else, aside from the aforementioned novels, you can look forward to from the Jeremyverse.
BENEATH in hardcover. I’ve received a surprising amount of e-mails from fans requesting BENEATH in hardcover format. I am currently getting quotes from printers and will hopefully be able to do a 500 – 1000 print run, which will be SIGNED and NUMBERED and sold directly to fans. But, whether or not this happens is 100% on demand. I will be starting a kickstarter.com campaign for preorders. Once preorders get high enough for me to break even, the books will get printed. If we can’t hit that dollar amount (I’m not sure what it will be yet) the books won’t get printed. But I hope it happens because these books will be purty and will include several pages of sketches (by me).
I get asked this question a lot. When’s the next book coming out? Are you writing sequels to any books? What are you working on now?
In an attempt to answer all these questions, I’m going to post a quick reply here, and then post new blog posts detailing each of the projects listed in this post.
What’s next for the Chess Team? The next Chess Team (now called Jack Sigler Thrillers–stores were wary of the nerdy sounding Chess Team) is titled THRESHOLD and will be out next Spring (March/April). I will release cover, summary, and final release date the moment I have them.
As fond as I am of the brain craving masses and their penchant for Armageddon, I can’t help wondering if they’re overstaying their welcome. Before you start reach for my neck, let me explain. I have been a fan of zombie movies, stories and games for as long as I can remember. A few years ago, I blogged the question, “Why do I love zombies so much?” I couldn’t get enough of them at the time and was given pop culture doses of zombie at regular intervals.
But now, too much of a good thing,” is the phrase that comes to mind. I find myself becoming decreasingly excited about zombie movies, novels and games. There is just so many of them and in a rush to feed public consumption, quality is taking a hit.
I know that much of today’s storytelling–particularly in movies–is just a rehash of something that’s come before, but zombie flicks are getting out of control. There seems to be only two elements that change in zombie movies. 1. The location—a mall, the British countryside, an island, etc. And 2. The cause of the outbreak—a disease, a government project gone wrong, or the funk of forty thousand years. And those elements are then inserted into two different plotlines: 1. The tower defense–survivors are holed up and making a last stand. And 2. The quest — survivors are trying to get someplace, very far away, and are picked off one by one as they travel.
I’m a child of the eighties. That’s not to say I was born in the eighties. I wasn’t. What I mean is that my formative child rearing years stretched between 1980, when I was six and 1989, when I was (I hate math) fifteen.
My gaming habit was formed by Pong (for you youngens, Pong wasn’t just a game, but an entire game system that played ONE game), Atari, Colecovision, Commodore 64, Apple IIC, Nintendo and Sega. My love of sci-fi was fostered by Creature Double Feature (only here in New England–Godzilla, Gamera, monster movies), Battlestar Galactic (with a fuzzy robot bear!), Dr. Who, Greatest American Hero and Star Trek (Khaaaaaan!). I ate Cocoa Pebbles and lived in a cartoon bliss ruled by Space Ghost, The Herculoids, G.I. Joe, Robotech, Transformers, Go-bots, Force Five (Gai King, Starvengers, etc), M.A.S.K., Gummy Bears and that pink chick that was truly outrageous. *Yes, I know its Jem. Don’t doubt my mastery of the 80s!

INTERVIEWS
Here are some links to
interviews I've done, past and present--newest on top.
I'm a huge fan of the genre I write,
and read books by the following authors like they were my Grandma
Vincent's homemade chocolate bon-bons on Christmas Eve. If
you're a fan of any of these authors, you'll feel right at home
within the pages of my books.
jamesrollins.com - My favorite
author, and my biggest supporter, James Rollins, bestselling author
of BLACK ORDER and THE JUDAS STRAIN can do no wrong in my book. I've
been a fan since reading SUBTERRANEAN maybe seven years ago.
prestonchild.com - Douglas
Preston and Lincoln Child are the fantastic writing duo that brought
us THE RELIC, DEEP STORM and BOOK OF THE DEAD. Whether they're
writing together or solo, these guys don't miss.
matthewreilly.com - Matthew Reilly's novels are basically
action-adventure/thrillers on speed. I love his creative and his
non-stop pace. His first novel, CONTEST is not only my favorite
of his, but it was also originally self-published...no wonder I
like him!
stevealten.com - Steve Alten thinks big...big creatures
that is. I discovered his books about two years ago and read one
after the other until I ran out, finishing with THE LOCH, which
I have to admit was a major inspiration (along with his MEG
series) for the novel I just finished writing. I am now proud to
say that I am publishing the next book in the MEG series, HELL'S
AQUARIUM through my publishing company, Variance.
crichton-official.com - Not including
his two most recent book, Michael Crichton is the master of science
based thrillers. JURASSIC PARK, THE LOST WORLD, TIMELINE, SPHERE and
PREY all rank among my favorite novels.
scottsigler.com Scott is not only a cool guy, but he
also writes awesome novels. Ancestor, which I blurbed, is one of
my favorite new novels. Look for his future books, INFESTED and
NOCTURNAL from Crown Books.
jackdubrulbooks.com - When you're looking for action
adventure novels, Jack DuBrul's character, Phillip Mercer, can't
be beat. And now that DuBrul is teaming up with the granddaddy
of the genre, Clive Cussler, we'll be seeing a lot more from
him.
stelpavlou.com - Not only is Stel a stand up Brit and a
really nice guy, but he's also written one of the finest books
of the last 10 years. DECIPHER is an amazing and smart thriller.
